MURALS

I am blessed to be Métis on both sides of my family. I was born and raised in Winnipeg, Manitoba, in Treaty 1 Territory.

My great-great-great Grandfather, Paul Proulx, served on Louis Riel’s Council during the Red River Resistance in 1869-1870. The Proulx’s were among the first to settle in La Coulée, Manitoba.  Still in La Coulée today, you can visit the intersection of Proulx Road and Proulx Boulevard.  Many of my family still live in that area today.

I am always looking for ways to honour my heritage, specifically with my woodland art/tattoos, and murals. This style of art explores the connections and relationship between spirit, animals, nature, and people. Doing this art is how I connect to myself, the community, and my ancestors.

I am so proud to have the roots of my family run deep within this province. Many of my ancestors faced colonialism and racism to hide and be quiet about who they were, and that resulted in Métis culture being lost throughout the generations.  Painting these murals lets me feel deeply connected with my history and culture. Through these murals I hope to honour my ancestors and all Indigenous people.

“My people will sleep for one hundred years, but when they awake, it will be the artists who give them their spirit back.”

- Louis Riel

If you are interested in getting a mural done, or any custom indigenous artwork, feel free to contact me on Instagram, or shoot me an email at justineproulxartistry@gmail.com !

Currently I am only doing murals that fit the style of artwork that you see here on the site. I do my murals and other artwork around my tattooing schedule, so sometimes booking a mural could be a few months in advance, depending on the size of it!
